Next up: Summerland in Ohio

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

From August 19th-22nd, I will be at the Summerland Gathering hosted by the Sixth Night Grove ADF and Three Cranes Grove ADF.  The gathering is at a charming little camp in Ohio.  Attendance is not limited to ADF druids, and over the years I have met some delightful Pagans at the gathering who do not belong to the international Neo-Pagan organization.

Karen, the senior druid of Sixth Night Grove, is always a wonderful hostess who strives to ensure that everyone feels welcome and at home.  As you might expect of a festival associated with Ár nDraíocht Féin, the workshops held from Thursday to Saturday almost always interesting and informative.  Here is a description of the workshop I will be presenting there with my fellow híredmann Taren this year:

THE MARTIN RUNE DECK -   Pagan artist Taren Martin and author Alaric Albertsson talk about how they developed the Martin Rune Deck.  This deck of 33 cards beautifully illustrates the mysteries of the Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem, giving life to the poem’s descriptive verse while simultaneously remaining true to the lore therein.  Time permitting, Martin and Albertsson will give a few rune readings at the end of the presentation.

On Saturday night the festival attendees let their hair down and enjoy a variety of entertainments.  I’ve found that every night at Summerland is fun, though.  Over the past few years this has become one of my favorite gatherings.

The price is very reasonable ($75), and there is an equally reasonable meal plan.  A limited number of cabins are available for early registrants, but these are sold out now for the 2010 gathering.  If you are interested, check it out at http://www.6thnight.org/summerland.html .
